FAQ Section

Consumer Advisory

Questions to ask when a recommendation sounds like a requirement.

Q1.Do I have to use the shop my insurance company recommends?

Ask whether the shop is being recommended or required. If anyone says a specific shop is required, ask for the policy language or written explanation before making a decision.

Q2.Can a shop tell me I have to leave my car there?

Ask who is requiring that and why. Before authorizing repairs, ask what forms you have signed, whether storage or teardown charges apply, and what is required if you choose to move the vehicle.

Q3.What should I ask if someone says I will not get a warranty?

Ask who provides the repair warranty, what work is covered, how long it lasts, and whether the warranty comes from the shop performing the repair or from another party. Get the answer in writing.

Q4.Can I choose my own repair shop after an insurance claim?

Customers can ask whether a preferred shop is a recommendation or a policy requirement, and can request the policy language or written explanation if a requirement is claimed. If warranty coverage is mentioned, ask who provides the repair warranty, what it covers, and get the answer in writing.
